Therapy

At Toward Psychology, we know there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to mental health. We take the time to get to know you, understand your needs, and then work with you to create a plan that fits. Sometimes that means using one approach, other times a mix, and always with the goal of helping you move toward the best outcomes for you.

Therapy support options:

  • In-person at our Maryborough office

  • Telehealth (phone or online)

  • Outreach on request (in home or other location)

Assessment

At Toward Psychology, we offer psychological assessments to provide clarity and direction.

Assessments can help with diagnosis, treatment planning, NDIS applications, and recommendations for schools, workplaces, or health professionals. Using a supportive and thorough approach, we deliver clear recommendations, feedback and practical steps to guide the way forward.

  • A cognitive assessment explores how a person learns, remembers, and solves problems, highlighting both strengths and challenges in their intellectual profile.

This insight can explain learning difficulties, behavioural challenges, or social-emotional struggles, and help guide strategies at home, school, or in the workplace.

Cognitive assessments are often requested for school planning, diagnostic clarification, or as supporting evidence for NDIS applications.

Medicare rebates may apply when referred through a GP or specialist under certain assessment pathways.

Our goal is to provide a clear picture that supports practical next steps for learning and daily life.

  • A behaviour assessment provides formal evidence of a person’s support needs when behaviours of concern are present.

The assessment focuses on how behaviours impact daily life and what level of assistance is required to keep the individual and those around them safe.

This process is often necessary for accessing or renewing NDIS funding for a Positive Behaviour Support Plan (PBSP).

We provide clear reports and recommendations that can be used to guide future supports and ensure the right level of assistance is in place.

  • Adaptive skills are the everyday abilities that help us communicate, socialise, manage self-care, and complete daily tasks.

An adaptive skills assessment compares an individual’s abilities to age-based expectations, showing where support may be needed or where strengths can be built upon.

These assessments are often important for NDIS applications and planning, school planning, or to better understand a child’s functional development.

Medicare rebates may apply if the assessment is part of a broader referral from your GP or specialist.

Our team provides clear, practical recommendations to help individuals gain the support they need in daily life.

  • Autism is a condition that affects how a person thinks, feels, and experiences the world around them.

It can influence communication, social interaction, and behaviour, and is described as a spectrum because every individual presents differently.

An autism assessment can provide clarity, identify supports, and guide the best ways to help this person thrive at home, school, and in the community.

If you have concerns, your GP or paediatrician may refer you for an assessment, which can also be recognised for NDIS funding or school support.

Our psychologists provide comprehensive, evidence-based assessments and practical recommendations tailored to the person’s unique needs.

  • An ADHD assessment looks at attention, focus, and behaviour across different areas of life, including home, school, and social settings.

The process usually involves input from families, teachers, and medical specialists to build a full picture of a person’s needs.

A referral from your GP or paediatrician is required to access this service, and Medicare rebates may be available under certain referral pathways.

The results can provide clarity, guide treatment or school adjustments, and support applications for NDIS or other funding.

Our psychologists work closely with you to ensure the process is thorough, supportive, and tailored.
